| Over the weekend, Ladder 52 received two upgrades to its ladder equipment. These improvements followed an evaluation and discussion of multiple buildings throughout our primary coverage area, as well as mutual aid response areas. As a result, Ladder 52 is now equipped with a 20-foot straight ladder and a 5-foot VEIS ladder.
The 20-foot ladder is designed to access the second stories of many residential buildings. This addition allows Ladder 52 to place ground ladders more effectively, allowing additional extension ladders to be used in other locations where they are most advantageous. VEIS is a focused search technique used to locate possible trapped victims in specific locations. This tactic often starts from window access, and first-floor windows can be offset from the ground, making entry difficult. The new ladder equipment will help the truck company crew members gain access more efficiently and provide a more effective search when every second matters.
We appreciate the assistance of American Equipment Services, LLC in the removal and installation of the ladder tunnel, as well as MAK Mobile Welding for fabricating components to support these additions to Ladder 52. MAK Mobile Welding specializes in onsite welding, equipment repair, and offers 24/7 emergency service. |
